When the body writes in ink

Poetry. movement.Embodied language

When the body writes in ink
June 21-The State Hall
Hastings

A one-day immersive workshop exploring the body as a source of poetry.

This is a space where movement and writing meet. Where the body speaks before words, and language emerges from sensation, rhythm, and image rather than thought alone.

Rooted in over 35 years of embodied practice and 25 years of teaching the Five Rhythms, Emma Leach invites you into a process of listening beneath the surface. Through guided movement, improvisation, and simple writing practices, we will explore how gesture becomes language, and how language can return to the body as movement.

There is no focus on performance or perfection. No need to be a dancer or a writer. This work is about presence, curiosity, and allowing what is already within you to find form.

Throughout the day, we will move, write, witness, and be witnessed. We will gather fragments, images, and sensations, shaping them into poetic expression, and then dissolving them again into movement.

This is a space for:

  • exploring creativity through the body

  • accessing a deeper, more instinctive voice

  • allowing humour, imagination, and the unexpected to emerge

  • reconnecting with the body as a living, expressive language

On the Summer Solstice, we will also take time to mark the turning of the season, closing the day with a simple, shared ritual of movement and words.

You are invited to come as you are.
With a body. With curiosity. With whatever wants to be written.

"Emma, That was just superb and felt like experiencing a deeper level of 5R.

Felt so connected with you and sharing such delicate magic - it really felt like being in the same room, the energy was just phenomenal.

Love love loved it."

"A joy to participate in this improvisation led by Emma Leech.

Starting to create from silence, from the impact of the body in space in relation to others with the world. A tool, a research I can't live without as an actress and as a human being.

Thank you Emma for the deep teachings."
