“Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded, and the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust.” Lawrence Krauss

We are wondrous beings made of stardust… Come celebrate the magic in us all at the start of the starry festive season. We’ll be calling in the spirit of Bowie and Beethoven, and discovering our very own rock and roll soul. At the Starry Ball live classical and improvised cello complements a sparkling mix of recorded tracks to bring us delightfully into presence and inspire our unique expression. Let’s ignite a sense of wonder at the expansive possibility of every moment… Channeling the energy and power of the shapeshifter in each of us.

5Rhythms Star: Emma Leech
Cellist Star: Ben Michaels
Mis-chief: Sarah Johnson

5RHYTHMS
The 5Rhythms are a map to everywhere we want to go - inner, outer, forward, back, physical, emotional, intellectual - they reconnect us to the wisdom of our bodies and unleash movement’s dynamic healing power. 5Rhythms transcends dance - movement is the medicine, the meditation and the metaphor. Together we peel back layers, lay our masks down, and dance till we disappear.
The 5Rhythms...
Flowing: fluid, supple, flexible, surrender.
Staccato: percussive, masculine, strong, boundaries.
Chaos: releasing, creative, intuitive, free.
Lyrical: rebirth, grounded, light, empowered.
Stillness: meditative, slow, wisdom, endings.
The fastest way to still the mind is to move the body. https://www.5rhythms.com

BEN MICHAELS
A British cellist based in Crystal Palace, Ben Michaels is passionate about chamber and contemporary music. Most recently Ben premiered his project - for cello, by cellists - six newly commissioned solo works written by different cellist-composers. He was awarded the inaugural Keith Harvey Memorial Award by the London Cello Society (2022) in support of this project. 2024 included world premieres as part of Apartment House at Wigmore Hall, Ben echoing around Lightroom for an immersive David Hockney exhibition with music by Nico Muhly, performances onstage as a solo cellist for three-actor contemporary theatre and French baroque opera with the English Concert. Before exploring his passion for music, Ben studied Biochemistry at Clare College, Cambridge. Ben plays on a Gaetano Gadda cello, generously provided on loan by an anonymous benefactor.

"Emma, That was just superb and felt like experiencing a deeper level of 5R.

Felt so connected with you and sharing such delicate magic - it really felt like being in the same room, the energy was just phenomenal.

Love love loved it."

"A joy to participate in this improvisation led by Emma Leech.

Starting to create from silence, from the impact of the body in space in relation to others with the world. A tool, a research I can't live without as an actress and as a human being.

Thank you Emma for the deep teachings."
